spool for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV · Last updated October 10, 2026
spool is an audiobook player. It is built to know as little about you as possible: there is no spool account, no advertising and no tracking.
No data collection
spool does not collect any data. There is no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and the developer runs no servers that see your activity.
Servers you connect
When you add an Audiobookshelf or Jellyfin server, spool sends your sign-in details, and later your listening progress and bookmarks, only to that server. Those servers are run by you or by someone you chose; their own privacy practices apply to what they store.
LibriVox
Browsing, searching and playing LibriVox books sends requests to the Internet Archive (archive.org), which hosts LibriVox recordings. Those requests are subject to the Internet Archive's terms and privacy policy. Progress for LibriVox books is kept only on your device.
Files you import
Audio files you import stay on your device, inside spool's private storage. They are never uploaded anywhere.
Stored on your device
- Server addresses and sign-in tokens, in the iOS Keychain
- Your library listing, cover images and downloads, so the app works offline
- Playback preferences such as skip intervals and speed, and your theme
- Listening stats (time listened per day and per book), which never leave your device
Removing a library in Settings, or deleting the app, removes this data.
Purchases
spool Pro is purchased through Apple. spool receives only confirmation that the purchase is valid; payment details are handled entirely by Apple.
Children
spool does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
